Urgent dermatology appointment

I was recently referred for an urgent dermatology appointment as I have had an ulcer on my ear since last October that has not healed, which I understand can be indicative of a type of skin cancer.

I telephoned about the appointment a couple of weeks ago just to make sure I was on the urgent waiting list which I am but they were unable to give me any idea of when my appointment would be - though they did inform me that extra weekend clinics are being held to try and get through the waiting list.

I'm left wondering how long I am likely to be waiting for an appointment, as I understandably would like to have this checked out.

I am very sorry that staff were unable to give you a timeframe of when you are likely to be offered an appointment. Please be assured that the Dermatology team are working hard doing a number of extra clinics every week and weekend and have introduced photo-triage to help prioritise some patients referred to the service.

Every Dermatology appointment is utilised and if we get any late cancellations we contact patients in the hope that they can attend at short notice.

I understand your concern when you have a non healing area and no idea of when you will be seen which is understandably causing further worry. If the area is changing or getting bigger I would suggest that you go back to your GP to let them see the area on your ear again.
