I have always struggled with my mental health from a young age, I was diagnosed with bpd last year. I have recently had an episode of depression so I called up Royton and Crompton family practice and tried to get an appointment which I was unable to, they were only offering over the phone appointments which isn't ideal with someone who is struggling mentally. When I have spoken to the Dr's at the practice they have had a lack of empathy and failed to do things such as referrals in an untimely manner. I have been on medication for my mental health for a long time and they would always say that I need to go to the psychiatrist to have it be changed which is fully understandable but when referrals for these services aren't getting done it puts care at a standstill. The most recent phone calls I have had have been a waste of time as they all tell me the same stuff such as sleeping better, eating better and getting exercise. This is all good in saying this to patients but when you have severe mental health it is difficult to even get out of bed in the morning. They have offered me no support whatsoever such as counselling. As a nurse myself I find that the care from the Dr's at the practice is disgusting, I would never expect anyone with mental health to be treated the way I have and I am sure if the Dr's was spoken to in the way I have they would also be disgusted. They obviously need some training in communication as this isn't the first time this has happened. If this was another patient this could have lead to a different outcome to where someone could have taken there life and this is what they don't think about. I felt worthless and feel as if they haven't listened to anything I have said to them as I have been struggling to sleep and eat even one meal per day. I was told to phone crisis teams which have also been a waste of time as they too have been no help and just told me go to A&E which I feel that it wasn't necessary. As for the receptionist they have gone above and beyond for me trying to get me in as soon as possible they should really be proud of themselves they are a credit to the practice.
