"Lack of GP appointments"

About: South West Acute Hospital / Emergency Care and Medicine Services South West Acute Hospital / GP out of hours / Urgent Care

(as the patient),

Could not get GP appointment,

Contacted Out of Hours later in the evening and was referred to SWAH A&E.

Waiting over 8 hours for UTI diagnosis.

My condition was not a A&E case, such a waste of A&E resources on what should have been dealt with in a GP appointment.

Dear correspondencedr73

Thank you for expressing your opinions with this medium, about your recent service user experiences.

I would like to apologise for the long wait to get a diagnosis within our department. As you may appreciate, our ED department's are under extreme pressures at the moment and this can cause unavoidable delays.

Maybe some of our colleagues in the primary care sector, will respond in due course with respect to your inability to get a suitable GP appointment.

finally I hope this response finds you well

kind regards

John Kerr

Dear correspondencedr73

Thank you for taking the time to explain about your recent experience with the Out of Hours GP service. The service is commissioned to provide GP Out of Hours services for Patients with clinically urgent conditions that cannot wait until their own GP surgery reopens.

We were sorry to hear that you did not have a positive experience of the service. Unfortunately we do not have sufficient details to investigate your complaint to enable us to fully review the information on the matter. We are unable to clarify the circumstances on why you were instructed to attend the Emergency Department. We would kindly ask that you contact our office directly so that we can review the appropriate information. Our address is 1a Miller Street, Derry BT48 6SU, or via telephone on 02871 865288.

I can see from the Care Opinion website that colleagues from the Western Trust Emergency Department have already responded in regards to your care within their department. I would advise that you contact your own GP Surgery in regards to any concerns you have about securing an appointment with them.

We hope that your health has improved and you have now returned to better health.

Kind regards

General Manager

Western Urgent Care.
