"Treated me like an equal partner when it came to my future treatment options"

About: General practices in Lanarkshire

(as a service user),

I have had Crohn's disease for thirty years and am being treated for Complex PTSD, part of which historically involves extreme anxiety and panic attacks when undergoing surgery, discussing treament options and possible complications, and receiving news about test results.

I recently had my first appointment at Wellhall with Dr Robson to discuss test results and go over my medication, and found him such an approachable and professional caregiver that I was able to have an honest and relaxed conversation with him about the personal challenges I face in seeking treatment, during which time he actively listened to my anxieties, clarified issues I had been worrying about and treated me like an equal partner when it came to my future treatment options.

Dr Robson made sure to give me the time I needed to fully explain the difficulties I have in receiving medical news and discussing possible clinical outcomes, addressed my concerns in a highly emotionally intelligent and compassionate manner, and asked me if there were any further questions I had, until I was  confident enough in what I had been told to leave the practice without fear of further anxieties building up.

As patient with a chronic disease stemming back thirty years with countless appointments along the way, this was the single most reassuringly transparent explanation I have ever been given by any GP as to the processes involved in my care, and it made me feel on an even footing again, without my CPTSD symptoms clouding my ability to take in information relating to my health in a calm and balanced manner.

I feel I have made a real breakthrough in better managing my approach to seeking out and receiving the care I so badly need thanks to Dr Robson's unusually perceptive approach to my needs as a patient experiencing the effects of nearly 30 years of trauma, and am genuinely grateful to have him as a member of my care team going forward. He is an absolute credit to this already excellent practice.

Dear Yorkshire Lassie,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience of you GP practice and Dr Robson.

Having read your other feedback about Day Surgery at University Hospital Monklands, I am so pleased to hear that your outstanding care has also been received from your GP practice.

GP’s are independent contractors and are responsible for investigating and responding to any concerns a person may have about the service; they are not registered to respond directly to feedback through Care Opinion. Can I please invite you to contact the Practice Manager to ensure the staff receive this well deserved feedback?

Kind Regards,

Jenni
