"Community nurse visits and no time frame"

About: North Manchester General Hospital / Urology

(as a service user),

Hello, I have read a few stories similar to mine, and it is frustrating to know that some of these stories are nine years old, and nothing seems to have changed. I respect the nurses and appreciate their hard work and dedication. However, when I am not given a time frame and am stuck waiting for them to come, it can be distressing, especially if I am uncomfortable moving or doing anything for fear of missing their arrival. I have worked in community care and know that time frames can be given, so I am curious why nurses cannot provide them. When asked, they simply say they cannot help with a time, which includes the IV access, bowel and bladder, and nutritional teams. I believe that addressing this situation properly would benefit many people.

Dear Queeny88,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your experience of the community nursing teams service. We are pleased to read of your kind comments regarding the hard work and dedication demonstrated by our nurses, this is the standard of care we strive to achieve on a daily basis.

We are however sorry to hear of you not being provided with a timeframe. Regrettably, due to the nature of work undertaken by the community nursing teams they are unable to provide a specific timeframe. This is because the visits undertaken by the community nurses are determined by a number of factors including clinical need of individual patients and geographical location. Please be assured that wherever possible the community nursing teams do endeavor to provide as much information as possible as to when visits can be expected for example morning or afternoon, however on occasions this is not always possible, practical or appropriate in every case. That said however we do recognize how frustrating this can be for patients, and we are sorry for any distress caused in this regard.

Please be assured wherever possible and clinically appropriate, patients who are able to attend a clinic setting are offered appointments in the local clinics. This allows the patients more flexibility over the time of their appointment, however we do appreciate that this may not be appropriate for everyone.

We take all issues surrounding patient care very seriously. Thank you for taking the time to post your comments.
