"Overall I was well looked after"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Gynaecology (Ward 32)

(as the patient),

I was in a lot of pain the Sunday night so I called triage at RAH and the most kind and helpful person answered and gave advice twice (after I called back a second time). I ended up having to go to triage where the same person took care of me. Spent the night in the gynaecology ward (ward 32) taking blood tests and doing ultrasounds, and was treated well. Everyone was kind and so patient with me.

Thanks to a nurse who was so sympathetic, they allowed my husband to stay with me and they took care of him too, offering toast and tea to us at 2am which was needed.

I would have liked more answers when it came to explaining the pain I was in or finding the source of the pain but all answers came back as they weren't sure and it just happens. The nurses helped a lot with pain management which was fantastic but that wasn't finding the cause so I was obviously upset but so grateful that they could at least see I was in pain and that they helped.

At one point early the Monday morning I felt very unwell and tried to use the restroom, unfortunately making my way back to bed I felt light headed and nauseous so I had to kneel on the floor. Absolute rapid response for a few nurses once my husband called for help. They lifted me, got me back to bed, took my blood pressure, got me meds and a bucket for the nausea. They used kind words and they dimmed the lights for me, got me a heat pack and just kept saying that if I needed anything that I should just call.

One nurse seemed to be a student and I didn't mind that, just wished they would have smiled more or been a bit kinder. Also when doing scans, they could have been softer or smoother - a stomach ultrasound shouldn't hurt like that.

Over all, I was looked after well and so was my husband while he stayed with me. Staff were kind and kept me calm and did amazing jobs at explaining things when needed.
