"Parking"

About: Derriford Hospital

(as the patient),

I attended Derriford Hospital for a routine appointment recently. Whilst the care I received in the hospital was faultless, the parking situation was an absolute nightmare! The multi storey car park was in chaos. Cars queued as the pay on exit didn't work which in turn led to new cars coming in being caught up in the chaos. The signage is poor and confusing. I eventually found a space and had to literally run to my appointment so as not to be late. I had left in plenty of time for the appointment but it took too long to park. After my appointment I then had to join a huge queue to pay for the parking. The system was clearly not working and needs urgent improvement.

Lisa Locke, Deputy Head of Facilities, was very sorry to hear of your recent experience. Lisa explained that the multi-storey car park (MSCP) has recently had the signage changed inside to assist patients, this included colour coded level signage and directional signage.

There are 3 pay on foot machines in the MSCP located at the main foyer, level 0 and level 2. We are going to increase the numbers of machines in the foyer by adding an extra one. All customers paying by card can also use the card readers situated at the exit barrier or they can pay at the machines at the main entrance.

I hope this information helps to reassure you that the Facilities team are addressing the issues you shared.
