"Lack of privacy for inpatients"

About: Ophthalmology / Ophthalmology Day Unit Ward 27

(as a service user),

Recently I had emergency surgery for a retinal detachment. The care I received from all the nurses and doctors was excellent. However I was concerned that the space that was used for pre surgery assessment was an open ward area. There were elderly patients still in bed asleep as it was 7am with no curtains drawn around them.

This raised for me issues around privacy, dignity and confidentiality. I am aware that space is at a premium but I wonder if it would be preferable for outpatients to wait away from inpatient areas.

Dear paynec

Thank you for taking the time to feedback your experience when you attended for Retinal Detachment Surgery.

I delighted to hear the care you received from our team was excellent and I will pass this on to all involved.

Although I am sorry to hear the space used for the pre-assessment within the ward caused you concern for your privacy, dignity and confidentiality. This is something we are reviewing constantly to ensure all our patients needs are met.

If you would like to discuss this further, please send your details to the confidential email address below and I will be in contact in due course.
