I went for a follow up appointment recently at the Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary. It was my first visit to the outpatient department and my first wander through the huge atrium part of the building.
I just wanted to say that I think that the money spent on designing a hospital to be beautiful is money well-spent. I was fortunate enough to be there when a young person was playing the piano in the great hall and the acoustics in that huge space were amazing and the effect was beautiful. I also really enjoyed the frieze designs on the glass walls/partitions of the cafe and outpatient clinics. I think these features should be part of every new build as they add to a feeling that patients are cared for and valued, despite this era of scrimp and save.
"How beautiful the hospital is"
