"To say it was quick is an understatement"

About: Fife Community Services / Rapid Cancer Diagnostic Service (RCDS)

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

My visit to the RCDS unit at Victoria Hospital was from a GP referral. I have various health issues including COPD which means any change in my health makes me extremely concerned. I was experiencing weight loss and I lost vast amounts of weight over a very short period.  This can happen with my COPD but on this occasion it was extreme.

I was very pleased that my GP wasted no time in getting me the referral as over the years my health has caused me worry. I soon got a call from the RCDS team and Katie was my nurse who guided me through the pathway. To say it was quick is an understatement.

I have been in an out of hospital on a number of occasions but never experienced the slick, prompt, efficient service such as the RCDS.  Everyone I came in contact with was so nice and calming, from the first phone call to my discharge.  I cannot fault the service which is brilliant, delivered by a team who care about the patients.

Dear rcdsal40

Thank you for sharing your experience of care. Your appointment to the RCDS service as a result of your GP referral, highlights the crucial role of timely intervention, particularly given your multiple health concerns, including COPD, which understandably heightens your anxiety about any changes in your health. Experiencing significant weight loss over a short period can be particularly alarming, especially as it was more than the typical fluctuations you may associated with COPD.

The swift response from your GP in facilitating the referral to RCDS reflects their attentiveness to your health needs and the ongoing challenges you face. The efficiency with which Katie, guided you through the pathway underscores the importance of clear communication and support during times of medical uncertainty.

It’s heartening to hear the RCDS stood out for you because of its slick, prompt, and efficient approach. Furthermore, the kindness of everyone you encountered, from the initial phone call to your discharge, reflect a genuine commitment to patient-centred care. Thank you for sharing your feedback, and I’m glad to hear that you received such exemplary care during your time at our RCDS service

Warm Regards

Murdina
