"Mistake made by department and unable to get communication"

About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Audiology

(as a parent/guardian),

My son recently had an appointment with Audiology at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow. He was due a follow-up appointment in 4 months. His appointment letter came through with a date for eight months later.

At another appointment with a Rheumatology appointment I discussed this error, to which they looked at the notes and they agreed this was an error by booking staff as the Audiologist had said in his notes it was important to see him back in 4 months.

I contacted the booking line and they said they only had appointments at the earliest for six months after he was due to be seen. It took a few days to get through but eventually spoke to someone. They said they would get the doctor's secretary to call me back to resolve this issue and organise an appointment for my son.

I have been calling every day since and not been all able to get through at all. The line just rings out and eventually cuts off, there is no option to leave a voicemail. I also contacted the hospital’s main phone line and they put me through to various audiology phone lines and the main clinic itself and not one person answered any of them. The GP has also not been able to get through to them.

I am lost as to what to do other than to turn up to the hospital in the hope that a clinic is running and demand to speak with someone in person who works within the department. I have tried everything I can to help my son get an appointment due to the department’s mistake. I am worried about my son’s hearing, which in turn is affecting his speech and language development. Please can anyone help? Is there anything else I can do or anyone I can contact?
