"My Amazing ERAS Nurse"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / General Surgery (wards 19, 20, 24, 26 &29)

(as a service user),

I was admitted to the RAH for an operation to remove a cancerous tumour in my bowel.

I first met Amy at my pre-assesment appointment where she spent time getting to know me and explaining how she would help me get better after my operation and hopefully lower the chance of me developing any complications. From the moment I met her I knew she was something special. She gave me a printed sheet that she had made which explained the steps I had to take to help me recover and reassured me that she would be with me every step of the way...and she was. She brightened my day each morning when she popped in to visit me. She asked me how I was feeling and was happy to listen to my moans and groans at points but always made me feel better after a chat. She also renewed my dressings each day, removed my catheter and drain all with the utmost professionalism and skill.

Amy helped me with my showers and to get my hair washed which made me feel "normal" again. She also helped me walk around the ward a few times a day to keep me moving and help me recover quicker. Having her there every day and looking forward to seeing her lovely face honestly kept me going on the days I was feeling like I had taken a bit of a step back. I have never met anyone like her. Kind, caring, skilled, clever and beautiful inside and out. Amy, if you get to see this, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I was pleased to hear the care and treatment you received from our staff was to a high standard and you felt well cared for.

It was very heart warming to hear how Amy took the time to make you feel comfortable and answer any questions you may have had before and after your operation. This must have been a huge relief to you.

I will be happy to pass on your thanks to the team who I'm sure will be touched to hear you had such a positive experience while under their care.
