"Grateful for surgery which completely changed my life"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Cataract Unit

(as the patient),

I have had serious vision problems since childhood. My vision was very poor, which made my life very difficult. Four months ago I underwent cataract surgery in my left eye. I've written before on Care Opinion about how much it changed my life.

A week ago I had cataract surgery in my other eye. Now I can see even better, even though it seemed impossible. I see in a broader perspective (before, I had almost no vision in my right eye). I notice details that I didn't even know existed before. I can see everything that is far away from me. And - what is very important for me - my eyes don't hurt when I read, crochet or work on the computer for longer periods of time.

I owe all this to Dr Wilson (the Cataract Unit at Queen Margaret Hospital). Dr Wilson performed the surgery in a very professional manner. It is clear that this doctor has extensive knowledge and excellent skills to perform this type of difficult surgery. Nothing hurt and I didn't feel any discomfort. I was impressed with Dr Wilson's skill and professionalism.

Thank you very much to Dr Wilson for such a wonderful surgery and also for his approach to patients. The doctor is very polite, empathetic, patient, and has a great sense of humour. This made me feel good and safe in the Cataract Unit.

I also owe my well-being to the very nice and friendly nurses who took care of me. I'm very sorry, but I don't remember their first names. The nurse who interviewed me and put drops in my eyes had the surname Grzesinski (they were Polish by origin, and since I am also Polish, I remember the surname. Unfortunately, not their name. I'm sorry). Nurse Grzesinski was accompanied by a student nurse. Both were great. Cool and smiling nurses.

I would also like to thank everyone who was present during my surgery - the doctor who was on internship and assisted Dr Wilson, the anaesthesiologist, nurses and other people who helped. Thank you to the lovely staff member at the registration desk.

I will always be very grateful for this surgery, which completely changed my life. I wish all the staff at the Cataract Unit at Queen Margaret Hospital all the best.

Dear Karioka,

Thank you for sharing your amazing journey within the Ophthalmology service. It is lovely to hear that you have had such an amazing outcome from your surgery and you feel that this has changed your vision and the detail that you can see.

I will take great delight in sharing this fantastic feedback with Dr Wilson and the nursing team including Valerie Grzesinski and Saskia the student nurse.

We wish you well in your recovery and please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.

Take care

Stacey
