"Excellent Care"

About: Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (Edinburgh) / Crichton Ward Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (Edinburgh) / Dental Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (Edinburgh) / Ophthalmology Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (Edinburgh) / Paediatric surgery

(as a parent/guardian),

My nonverbal, profoundly learning disabled and autistic teenage son was admitted for a day surgery. He finds hospitals and healthcare environments very scary and challenging.

The nursing staff on Crichton Unit were brilliant. As was Blair (the LD Child Liaison Nurse) who also provided an amazing wraparound pre and post admission service. Everyone worked really hard to put my son at ease. They helped my son understand his social story. They used his visual communication system to aid him also. Great care planning meant a seamless excellent package of care was delivered from start to finish. All professionals went above and beyond to not only care and assist my son and myself but make the experience as joyful as was possible. His operation included Consultants from Paediatric Dentistry and the Community Children’s  Ophthalmic Service.

Thank you to everyone involved in my son’s care that day.

Hello Macd853,

Thanks very much for taking the time to share your experience, and especially the detail on what made the difference, as that helps us with planning care for other children and young people who will be attending.

As Blairs manager I've already shared your welcome and very well-deserved positive feedback. Thanks again.

All the best

Scott
