"Disappointed with the way I was spoken to"

About: Gynaecology / Gynaecology Services Area 3

(as the patient),

I phoned general enquires regarding my concerns over the length of time I have been on the waiting list for a laparoscopy as I have been waiting over a year.

I was put through to the gynaecology wait times department where I explained this and I got someone that didn’t seem all that interested. They asked my name and told me there are no updates,  and I'm probably better phoning back on Monday and speaking to someone else. I asked what the person on Monday would be able to tell me. I questioned if it would be an update on the wait time and was told yeah. I asked who I was to speak to on Monday and their contact number, as although they advised this, they hadn’t provided me with these details. They hung up. I phoned back through general enquiries and spoke to the same person as the first phone call and explained that they hadn’t given me a name or contact number which they then provided me with. In the previous phone call they said there was no update so I asked if that means I haven’t moved positions on the waiting list in over a year. They responded by telling me they don’t deal with in patients, and only picked up the phone so it didn’t ring out.

I am disappointed with the way I was spoken to during these phone calls. I felt I was within my rights to make contact and enquire as to whether there was an update. The uninterested and dismissive tone used by this person on the phone was unnecessary and very upsetting for me when I am already in a difficult situation awaiting an important procedure. I found their comment regarding only picking up the phone so it didn't ring out to be very rude and like it was a hassle that I had contacted them. Severely disappointed with  this situation and I only hope I do not have to go through this again or any other patients phoning in.
