"I cannot thank them enough for the care they gave my mum"

About: Royal Victoria Hospital (Belfast) Royal Victoria Hospital / Regional Intensive Care Unit

(as a relative),

My mum passed away in June 2022 in ICU. This was a very difficult time for myself and my family. The ICU staff both Drs and nurses were amazing and I cannot thank them enough for the care they gave my mum.

I also wanted to thank the chaplaincy service for the respect & dignity they gave to mum & us as a family. The prayers at her bedside were so peaceful and allowed us as a family to say goodbye to our mum in a calm quiet environment knowing that her wishes with regards her faith were being honoured and respected.

The care from the Belfast trust did not end there not longer after my mums death I received a phone call from the bereavement team asking how I was and what support I had.  This call came in a particularly difficult day for me and the person at the other end of the phone just listened to me. I can't thank them enough.

It was followed up with a further 2 phone calls and it really did help in those difficult days.  I also received a card with a little fabric heart from the bereavement team it was so nice to recieve.

This is an amazing service and one that the Belfast Trust should be proud of. The impact it had will probably never be known. I just wanted to say thank you to the whole team.

Thank your for your comments about the nursing and medical staff in ICU. I am glad that you found the staff supportive and caring during a very difficult time for you all as a family on the loss of your mother.

I will pass on your feedback to both the medical and the nursing teams as well as to the bereavement and chaplaincy departments.

Many Thanks

Thank you for posting this feedback from a very difficult time in your family. It is very encouraging for us to read about the positive and helpful role played by chaplaincy and others at the time. It is our privilege to have been there with you all. I will certainly share this with the wider chaplaincy team.

Thanks again,

Rev Derek Johnston
