"Feeling Heard"

About: Fife Community Services / Sexual Health

(as a service user),

Attended the Fife Sexual Health clinic to have a coil fitted to support with menopause.

Due to a long history of fertility treatment, I find all gynaecological procedures emotive and am particularly concerned about the impact of hormones on my emotional well-being.

I voiced my concerns to Dr Brechin and discussed my options. We agreed not to make a decision at this appointment and she arranged an appointment with a menopause specialist a few weeks down the line for me to discuss all options and have the coil fitted at that appointment if appropriate. If the coil is still the best option for me, this will allow me to have confidence in this decision.

Dear Masue, thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience with Dr Brechin at the Sexual Health clinic. We appreciate that that symptoms and treatments associated with menopause can pose significant challenges that vary between individuals and it is important for us to to support and enable women to make decisions about what is right for them by giving information and time to consider the options available and have concerns listened to and addressed.

I am delighted to hear that your experience has been such a positive one and I will be sure to share your feedback with Dr Brechin and the rest of the team.

Kirsty Durham, Sexual Health Senior Charge Nurse
