"Perfect Delivery"

About: Maternity care / Delivery suite / MLU Maternity care / Maternity Ward

(as the patient),

I arrived into Maternity in Daisy Hill Hospital on a Sunday morning for a balloon induction, but ended up staying because I had a c-section in my last pregnancy. This didn’t work so my waters where broken on the Monday morning and I was allowed to wait for a couple of hours to see if I could dilate any further.

I was so scared in case I went down the emergency c-section route like the last time, but I was allowed to stick to my birth plan, which I am forever grateful for. I was put on the intravenous hormone drip till I was 10cm dilated and was then taken to the labour ward.

My midwives - Ruth, Aoife and Courtney - where unbelievable, real life superstars, they were all routing for me to go as naturally as possible and to avoid surgery. All was going great until baby’s heart rate lowered and my doctor, Mr Samara, decided to use forceps for delivery. I was happy enough about this as it meant my baby would be born quickly.

Everyone in the delivery suite where amazing and I experienced a perfect delivery. I was taken back up to Maternity and given tea and toast, which was just what I needed. I really cannot praise DHH Maternity enough.

Hi, no problem at all,

Only amends to that would be I thought one of the midwives was called Ava rather than Aoife but perhaps I picked that up wrong.

Also I was taken to the labour ward on Monday morning for the waters to be broken and the drip so I was there all day rather than waiting to 10cm.

Also the babies heart rate increased rather than lowered and whilst I didn't want to have to use forceps I understood that the baby needed to be born sooner to be on the safe side and we couldn't wait.

I had a really positive experience and absolutely everyone was amazing from the ward staff, to the midwives, doctors to the aftercare the next day.

Thank you so much for helping deliver our little baby girl safely, we are forever grateful.
