I recently had a secondary postpartum haemorrhage at home, 2 days after giving birth. I called 999 to request assistance, I was in an absolute panic and was very frightened at what was happening.
I was spoken to very kindly by the operator and was informed an ambulance had been dispatched and that I would also get a call from another practitioner after I hung up. I was more or less instantly called back and asked more questions regarding my condition and was informed there was an advanced paramedic vehicle being directed to my home to assist.
Within 18 mins of my first call I had 2 advanced paramedic vehicles and 1 ambulance at my home with 6 crew in total, which is fantastic given how rurally I live. The professionals were so kind and promptly begun to treat me whilst keeping me calm and ensuring my husband and 2-day-old baby were informed of what was going on.
I'd particularly like to thank Stuart, the advanced critical care paramedic (a consultant from St. John's A&E Livingston) who was so kind, professional and knowledgeable. Stuart also accompanied me in the ambulance to the maternity delivery unit and provided lots of reassurance on the way.
I cannot thank the whole team enough - from those answering my 999 call, to the staff at the delivery suite in the Victoria Hospital. The Midwife Zara who looked after us for 2 hours until she finished her shift was so kind to us all as they let my husband and 2-day-old baby stay with me the whole time.
