After being referred by my GP on a Friday afternoon I was was aware busy the hospital would be busy but didn’t realise it would be so busy. After being triaged efficiently by the lovely nurses I then had a long wait in the waiting room to be seen. Then the shift changeover came, with a new set of staff who were under pressure but you couldn’t tell.
One of the auxiliaries called Debbie stood out to the point where I felt the need to pass this feedback on. She made sure every one in the waiting room had cold water/teas and coffees, was clearly running about answering buzzers dealing with all sorts, while wearing a smile and showing empathy to all the patients and families waiting. When I was then admitted and moved to the ward she made sure I was comfortable, nothing was a bother, and at a time when you feel unwell and vulnerable, this was really needed. I hope this gets passed on to the ward and Debbie and hope more staff in the NHS can see that by having this attitude, it really can help put patients at ease and feel safe. Thank you Medical Assessment Unit (RAH)!
