My husband just spent the night in Antrim Area ED. He was sent following a consultation with doctor on call for further investigations for possible infection. The Doctor in Dalriada Urgent was brilliant and very thorough - he was very impressed.
Unfortunately his experience in ED was not as good. My husband sat all night and when the day staff started, he was the first to be called. Although he had a letter from Dalriada to explain examination outcomes and possible explanations for his discomfort, the Dr seemed very abrupt and short. The doctor didn't seem to want to know the history and appeared visibly annoyed when my husband mixed up his days. My husband tried to explain where the pain was and the doctor stopped him and told him what he was saying was incorrect and the pain could not be coming from his kidney. The advice the doctor gave my husband regarding this is completely wrong (there's a lot of medical professionals in the family).
This is the second time recently my husband has had to attend ED and the Dr he saw at Christmas also provided the wrong advice regarding an injury. It is very frustrating, as a health care professional, to hear that my husband was not treated with the care and basic bedside manners that the Northern Trust encourages within its Trusts values. It's also worrying that if we didn't have medical professionals within our family, he would not have known the advice he received was incorrect.
My husband was sad to see the sheer pressure the staff were under, yet despite this pressure the nursing staff were very attentive.
