My 11 year old was referred to Out of Hours at VHK following a night of high fever and breathing difficulties. We arrived 30 minutes early, mainly because they were feeling listless and we live 20 minutes away so figured a drive would help a tiny bit. When we arrived, we went to the reception desk to check in, only to be told in a very brusque manner that they won't see us, it's handover, we have to come back. We were then advised, as I turned to go and sit down, that we weren't allowed to sit in the waiting area and the staff member promptly went to open the door and waited for us to leave.
So I am sitting in the car with a feverish child for 30 minutes to ensure we're allowed in this time. Bedside manner doesn't cost a lot and the person on reception could probably do with a TURAS course on it.
