My partner is in his 70s, was very poorly with a viral infection, flu like symptoms and having pain on passing urine with not being able to pass much. He had a procedure called a Urolift twelve months earlier and was back to how he was before he had it.
I rang the consultant's secretary and unfortunatly he was on holiday but she was absolutely brilliant and phoned us back after an hour to see if my partner was well enough to travel upto the RD&E.
Unfortunately he was unable to find the strength, he was in bed for four days, he felt too ill but said he could come up the following morning. He was told to go straight to Abbey ward.
As soon as we arrived he was shown into a private cubicle and was seen by three nurses, One took blood and did some routine checks, another came and did a bladder scan, he had to provide a urine sample and then a junior doctor called Joshua came in and had a good chat with him, he was very kind and polite and informative.
Because my partner was so poorly he got all the results back ASAP and sent them to Urology and after that we only had to wait about 20 minutes and he came back to us and told us we could go home and they would be in touch.
Exactly one week later my partner has been up for a flow test and is now waiting to see the consultant. The speed and efficiency that day was most impressive. We are both incredibly grateful to the wonderful staff on Abbey Ward and Dr. Joshua. Their care that day for my partner will not be forgotten.
"The speed and efficiency was most impressive"
