"Excellent emergency care"

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Accident and emergency Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Cardiology South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as the patient),

On a morning in February experienced very severe chest pains. I have never suffered from any kind of cardia trouble in fact, for my age, I consider myself to be fit and active. I rang 999. I was at home alone. The person on the 999 ambulance line asked very sensible questions and was calm and reassuring and he told me an ambulance would be called. The ambulance arrived within 10 mins. I have sent a note of thanks to the ambulance service.

The paramedics were instructed to take me directly to the CCU. When the trolley was pushed through the double doors the team were already assembled waiting for me. There was a slight delay as the consultant who was on call had not arrived. I think because the ambulance had arrived within the 30 mins allowed for the consultant to arrive.

I was treated, a stent inserted and throughout the consultant, Dr Taylor was informing me what he was doing and it was clear from the communications between him and his team that a very controlled and professional process was taking place, very reassuring. The result that was within about 2 hrs of my call to the ambulance service my treatment was completed.

From then on my experience in the CCU was first class. All the staff, doctors, nurses and all including those bringing meals and refreshments, the cleaners and the various specialists who visited me gave me confidence. The manner, kindness, consideration and good humour of all made me feel valued and that my care was important to everyone.

The speed of my transport and reception greatly improved the long term prospects for my health and the whole atmosphere within the CCU made me feel much better, relaxed and will also have contributed to my well being.,

Please pass on my 'heartfelt' gratitude to all involved in my care..
