After a fall in the hospital grounds resulted in a grazed face and chin laceration I attended the Minors Department within Altnagelvin ED. Despite the department being very busy with more people than chairs in the waiting room the triage nurses were doing a fantastic job of keeping the flow of patients moving and ensuring those needing the most urgent treatment were receiving it. Needless to say the triage nurse (apologies don't recall name) was kind and empathetic yet efficient with consideration being given to the other patients also waiting.
I was brought through to the Minors area and reviewed by two fantastic ENPs - firstly Natalie and then her colleague Brian. Despite the pressure on the department I was taken aback by how compassionate, caring and generally lovely all staff were.
Some Xrays were completed by the radiology team - two radiographers Hannah and Hannah. Again they were both very efficient and did a great job of trying to keep me as comfortable as possible while obtaining the best and necessary views.
After a bit of wound scrubbing and a few sutures later I was on my way again. A huge thank-you to all the staff within the department who looked after me. Every person I had an interaction with within the Emergency Department was working under significant pressure yet were so kind, helpful and doing such a fantastic job. They deserve far more recognition than they know!
