"In terms of infection control there was none"

About: Mater Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as a service user),

Tonight I visited the A&E department at the Mater hospital in Belfast. The entire place felt filthy from blood on the doorhandles to a sink clogged up with omit in the bathrooms. Clothes and blankets had been left behind.

In terms of infection control there was none - no medical professional was wearing a mask, they were wearing gloves but using same gloves to touch shared surfaces as patients and to top it off there was someone with active meningitis waiting maskless in the same waiting room as everyone else!

Half the time the receptionist wasn’t even there to supervise the waiting room and there were wee slips of nurses being tasked with trying to keep large men in the waiting room to receive care. No security at all.
