"I had the best care in a scary situation"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Day Surgery Queen Margaret Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

Hi. I was admitted to day surgery to have a Laparoscopic left salpingo-oophorectomy and right salpingectomy along with removing a massive cyst.

On arrival I met a wonderful Nurse Stuart. I hope I’ve got your name correct.  He done all observations and made me feel so at ease and relaxed as you can’t bring anyone to join you on admission.

Sarah the anaesthetic then joined and explained her role and what would happen and if their was anything she could do to make my day any easier, this made me feel so much better as I was fearful and offloaded my fears which she took on board (due to anaesthetic) and when I awoke after surgery  I felt so much better than previously- Thank you .

Consultant Dr Elmoursi was very professional/caring and explained everything to me regardless of any questions I asked …which he probably hears 20xtimes daily however that did not matter to himself he explained everything that was going to happen through surgery then answered questions I should of asked but I never thought of at the time ( scrambled brain) he knows our fears and wants to try and ease them which was appreciated.

The surgery went well thanks to himself and his team, I am on the road to recovery.

When I awoke I then met the amazing Trainee Practitioner Lyndsay who was a breath of fresh air, when your in a vulnerable position when awakening after anaesthetic and in a lot pain it’s a hard situation to be in when you regard yourself as capable however that gets thrown out the window in the first hour, lol. Really just go with it! This lovely lady was so professional/empathetic and understanding along with giving the care that we all wish every person deserves and I cannot thank her enough as I was one in many patients to look after.

I had the best care in a scary situation for myself and cannot thank you all enough.

Dear startc63

Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback, I am glad to read that your experience was a positive one and were able to support you during this difficult time. It can be quite daunting coming in for surgery and it is reassuring to see that you were well cared for by all of the team involved in your journey. I will share your kind comments with the teams and in particular those you have mentioned, who will appreciate them very much.

We wish you well in your recovery

Nola and the day surgery team.
