The surgeon had a reassuring bedside manner and came to see me post-op; and gave me an appropriate amount of information about the op for me to remember during my anaesthetic recovery!
The ward staff were very friendly and attentive to my pain and coffee/snack requirements :)
Unfortunately, I was either not given, or given when I was drowsy from anaesthesia, information about immobilisation and rehab. Though I am surgically trained (not in orthopaedics), some guidance would have been appreciated: discharge letter states "sling" only!
With regards to pre-op assessment: I had to take a day off to do a 160-mile trip from my home in the Northwest to have an MRSA swab done on-site, despite me having had a negative swab result at my normal place of work that I provided evidence for - at the suggestion of a member of the pre-op team - due to a very strict but evidence-based(?) Infection Control policy. Managerially, I feel it is very cost-ineffective for the NHS for me to not be in work (for the NHS!) and the additional cost of a repeat swab and it's processing - as well as costly and inconvenient for me...
Otherwise, very happy with the frontline staff!
