"Radiotherapy department"

About: Cancer Services / Radiotherapy

(as the patient),

Having had a cancer diagnosis I found myself having 28 fractions of radiotherapy which itself is very frightening to accept. I felt very, worried and unsure of everything. The staff are all so welcoming and helpful, it really is an amazing team, given the fact that everyone in the department is potentially going through some of the worst times of their lives, everyone is made to feel welcome and the staff really do get to know their patients. Everything is really organised and timings etc are usually spot on. Reception can be cold and lacks privacy which is a shame and the 3 toilets are in use constantly so more facilities would be nice. It’s large enough for an escort to stay with you which is good for mood etc. privacy is lacking because it’s such an open area and I feel a room with a toilet and a bed for when someone takes I’ll would be beneficial in the department.

Dear Cancersucks, thank you very much for taking the time to feedback your experience of our Radiotherapy Department. I can only try to imagine how worrying you felt but I am pleased to hear that you feel the staff within our department are organised and encouraging. I do believe that everyone from support workers to therapeutic radiographers to our oncology support nurses try to ensure a personalised service and I will pass on your kind words.

Your thoughts on our Reception area are very valid. Whilst it is roomy enough to accommodate family members, it does have a high roof and is particularly difficult to heat. The number of toilets can, at times be an issue and although we do have a nurses’ room available, it does not have any toilet facilities within.

These points will be passed to our Head of Therapeutic Radiology, Damian Parr, who in turn will take them to organisational meetings.

On behalf of all within Radiotherapy department, I hope you benefit from your treatments and wish you well for the future.

Kind regards... Bob
