"No care or compassion from the doctor"

About: University Hospital Ayr / Urology

(as the patient),

I had an appointment that I waited 3 years for. I should have been referred in March 2021 but my GP failed to action the referral letter. Finally another NHS department processed the referral for me in February 2022. After 3 years I finally had my appointment in February 2024.

I felt the the doctor was absolutely appalling. Quite incoherent and didn't seem to listen to my background. Their whole manner was atrocious. They didn't even introduce themselves. I quickly gave up trying to have a discussion as it was pointless.

I then had to undergo a short procedure and I was quite anxious. The doctor was again absolutely horrible in manner and was clearly getting a bit annoyed. Absolutely no care or compassion whatsoever.

All of the other staff I met were lovely, friendly, professional and all introduced themselves on meeting me. After the procedure the doctor left and the staff helped me recover and went and got me a drink.

For some reason, the behaviour of some senior doctors is absolutely shocking. It's the one thing that's become very apparent after nearly a decade of misery trying to deal with the NHS in Scotland.

A letter of complaint has been submitted to the health board and I await a response.
