Following procedures in the outpatients clinic, I was advised to have a hysterectomy. I have never had surgery, never had an anaesthetic. I was apprehensive, but given confidence in the team looking after me by everything being explained, consent obtained at every step, and their consummate professionalism delivered in a very caring way. I was listed for robotic assisted surgery. I was curious, (and nervous), about how I would feel walking into the theatre, receiving an anaesthetic, having the surgery. How I would feel when I woke up and how I would be once home.
Nothing to worry about.
I am astounded that I had major surgery, and was able to be discharged home the next day, requiring only paracetamol for minor discomfort. I feel very fortunate I was able to have robotic assisted surgery. This must be the future for all laparoscopic surgery. It is a pity the numbers of patients being treated this way have to be limited as there is only one available.
The whole experience has been a very positive one. I am so grateful for the care and skills of every single person involved in my treatment.
