Going back almost 18 months ago now I had the devastating news that my 5th baby had passed away during my pregnancy. The team that cared for me in CAH and the community were wonderful and I was delighted to keep in close contact with them when I found out I was pregnant again.
The compassion, understanding and quality of care I received was second to none - additional appointments and monitoring were arranged with no problem and I was always left feeling like I was completely in control and supported in my decisions.
Dr Murphy was source of down-to-earth information, especially when it came to decisions that may have been seen as "against the grain", her understanding of my ideal birth scenario and her obstetric knowledge was a constant reassurance, especially for my husband.
The friendliness and genuine excitement from Shivaun, bereavement midwife made me feel like that most important mummy in the world. In a time when I constantly doubted my body she was steadfastly in my corner. The simple text on mothers day was one of the best gifts I received.
And then to Paula, Sadie, Lois, Lorraine and Andrea: a homebirth team of dreams. Antenatal visits that I looked forward to and an almost invisible presence at my home birth were exactly what I needed. Their calm acknowledgement of a long labour without intervention as well as the inclusion of my 11 year old daughter made the arrival of my son an experience I was forever treasure.
I will be forever grateful.
