"Excellent attitude and flexibility"

About: General practices in Greater Glasgow & Clyde New Victoria Hospital / Audiology

(as a relative),

My elderly father (age 89) had an appointment at the Hearing / Audiology Clinic at the New Victoria Hospital (Clinic 0, Second Floor) - on Tues 30th Jan. This was to have moulds taken in both ears to enable new hearing aids to be made and fitted.

Previous to attending he required to arrange an appointment at Govanhill Health Clinic to have his ears syringed in advance so the moulds could be taken safely and correctly. This took place on 11th January.

Unfortunately when arriving at the Hearing Clinic on 30th Jan the nurse Patricia advised that the fitting could not proceed due to too much wax in left ear. My father has very limited mobility and has to be helped down from a 3rd floor flat to attend appointments.

Obviously being unable to proceed was very frustrating as we had attended the treatment rooms required to have the ears syringed i advance of the mould taking appointment. I explained how difficult it would be to repeat the journey's never mind the delay that would ensue.

Patricia advised that if we could have the ears syringed that day at Govanhill then she would attempt to fit my father in for the mould taken between appointments later in the day.

We called Govanhill and the two receptionists there arranged for nurse Kathleen to see my father at short notice. So we returned home with everything completed as planned but only because of the flexibility and can do attitude of the staff at both clinics - fantastic!

Please pass on thanks to all involved for this helpful, common sense and flexible approach which avoided a lot of unnecessary repetition on everyone's part.

P.S. A lay persons observation would be that it would be efficient to have some staff trained to syringe ears at the Hearing clinics to allow a one stop shop!

Dear Zydell

Thank you for taking the time to share you feedback.

I am sorry to hear about the issues your father experienced whilst attending for Audiology Clinic. I am pleased that the staff were able to arrange for your father to have his ears syringed and the moulds taken on the same day. I will be delighted to pass on your thanks to the staff, I am sure the staff will really appreciate it. I will also pass on your suggestion about staff being able to syringe ears at the clinic to the Senior Management Team.

Please pass on my best wishes to your father.

Take Care

Nicole
