"Falls below anything which I have previously been treated to"

About: Altnagelvin Area Hospital / Emergency department

(as a service user),

I have had recent experience of intense, overcrowded A&E over its capacity. Bodies everywhere. Mental Health. Adults in pain. Children in Pain. People lying in all sorts of shapes on that floor... a fire hazard in every way.... capacity? Safety? Exit strategy? Disabled patients.

Busy staff I can accept, but rude and cold frontline staff is not acceptable. Abrasive, defensive language delivered to patients seemingly to justify their extended agony. Patients on trolleys everywhere. Ambulance people staying for hours to handover.... often for up to 8 hours I was told. Too many Fermanagh patients in that mix..some felt particularly poor sense of equal patients.... these folks were leaving SWAH through no option of theirs to join the queue and begin all over again. New hospital, new rules... Some adults were waiting for days. People had their confidential information heard by many others.

Lack of bedlow in the hospital made this feel like a pressurised disaster area.
I feel there must be an investigation of quality of care at this ED department as it falls below anything which I have previously been treated to. The infection control would I am sure be invalid. The health and safety to patients and frontline staff I know would need to be examined carefully. I would imagine there are breaches to regulations.
