"My grandfather"

About: Inverclyde Royal Hospital / General Medicine ( wards G North, G South, J North, J South & L South)

(as a relative),

My grandfather is currently in Inverclyde Hospital. We have been informed that he has suspected lung cancer after the consultant spoke to my aunt briefly, away from my grandfathers bed. She was told he will be sent home after social services are contacted with no treatment.

Nobody medical told my grandfather this. He is slightly hard of hearing but outside of his hearing, he has command of all his faculties. He complained to us that he is in pain and the nurse gives him painkillers - his notes left out state he is in no pain, which contradicts this.

I feel like I am witnessing a car crash in slow motion. Yes he is elderly (in his 80's), but why is this acceptable. My mother is going to the hospital to try and speak to the consultant or someone who can give us the full picture and find out more about the medication/ pain relief he has been taking.

Since arriving over a week ago his appetite has significantly reduced. I’m raising this now as I want lessons to be learned and acted on straight away, while it can benefit my grandfather, not after the fact when he passes on as a statistic.

Update posted by redhm64 (a relative)

Hi Alison. Sadly my grandfather passed away in the early hours of this morning at home. I’m not in a good enough headspace to be able to help with an investigation at this moment in time.
