"Thank you for being so caring with my son"

(as a parent/guardian),

I brought my son into the children's emergency department as he had been unwell for a week and was getting more unwell. When I checked in, I asked that a note be made to let staff know my son was autistic and so had specific struggles relating to that.

The staff were so amazingly accommodating and found him a quiet place to wait to be checked over. We only had to wait a short time before he was seen and were sent to Medocc in order to be seen by a doctor.

The staff in Medocc were also so wonderfully helpful - letting us know the waiting area for children was quiet but if it got too busy to just let them know and we could walk or find a quieter place to wait. When I asked about wait times, they let us know where we were in the queue which helped my son understand how long he'd be waiting and when he was next. Even when he got upset, a nurse came out to the hallway and checked we were ok and let us know we could seek extra help if we needed. The wait times weren't too long and we got an answer quickly as to why he wasn't well. 

All staff who checked him over were so fantastic - asking him if it was ok to touch him and talking him through really clearly what they were doing and why which eased his anxiety immensely.

Thank you all so so much for making what could have been an incredibly upsetting and stressful situation so so much easier by being so helpful, caring and understanding. We truly appreciate it.
