"It was not what I expected at all - in a very good way."

About: Ross Memorial Hospital / Dietetics

(as a service user),

Had my first ever dietitian appointment yesterday.  It was not what I expected at all - in a very good way.

Jill talked through the whole weight loss journey and made lots of good suggestions in a friendly helpful manner.  I felt encouraged to try out the ideas - no diet sheets as such, but clear advice on how to make changes.  This included a recommendation to use leg weights routinely to build muscle - who knew we lost so much as we age.  This will help build up muscles that utilise carbs.  I’m waiting for Amazon to deliver a book called Atomic Habits to help me create and stick to my new regime too.

Cheers Jill, it was a pleasure when I was expecting a lecture and a diet sheet.  I’ll be encouraging anyone to do this too.

I am part of the overall team who manages complaints for NHS Highland and are known as the Feedback Team. We offer patients, relatives, MPs/MSPs, staff and anyone who requires assistance is registering a concern or formal complaint.

POST ON BEHALF OF -

Fiona Clarke RD MPhil, Dietetic Head of Service, North NHS Highland.

Dear Tarmac Tramp

Thank you for your comments and feedback regarding the Dietetic Services at Ross Memorial Hospital.

It is always a pleasure to receive such comments and to know that the staff at NHS Highland are appreciated both for their hard work and for their attitude towards patients.

We have done a lot of work over the years to develop a compassion centered service, particularly in regard to weight and health, and know that a lot of people experience stigma because of their size.

We want to make sure that people who come to see us feel listened to and understood, and can make changes that really matter to them. It seems that you felt this in action.

I will make sure Jill and the team are passed your lovely communication.

We aim to provide a high standard of care and treatment to the community we serve, and I trust that should you have need of our services in the future your experience will be just as positive.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback your experience.

Kind regards

Sylvia
