Before arriving at The Dame Carol Detox unit, I was feeling very anxious and nervous about the unknown of what to expect at my detox as I have never done it before. On arrival, I was made to feel very welcomed by all the staff and other patients. It took me a couple of days to settle in; the first day I stayed in my room. After a couple of days, I come out of my room and started to mingle with the other patients and got to know the staff too who made me feel very welcomed. I would recommend this detox to others should they get the chance to come here. I highly recommend it to gain recovery from addiction of alcohol.
I have enjoyed the meditation. Along with the group work which has given me coping mechanisms to maintain my recovery once I leave my detox.
I felt like I fitted in to the home like a little family, supporting each other from both patients and staff. Everyone is really friendly and made me feel at home.
It was good to listen to other peoples journeys and different stages of their life in recovery during AA, NA and CA meetings. They were all nice people who took their time out to get to know us and gave me hope to what I could achieve with my life in the future. It made me feel that I could do it.
I know we have board games through to having films nights. I feel it would be a good idea to maybe get a pool table.
All the staff have been brilliant and very welcoming. I could talk to the staff without being judged. I would advise anyone to grab recovery with both hands as long as you are ready for it at The Dame Carol Detox unit.
