"Short stay on oak ward"

About: Paediatrics / Oak Ward

(as a parent/guardian),

We were thoroughly looked after from PAU to Oak Ward. Lovely, friendly staff.

The Dr's took various amounts of time to get to us. The wait did make me anxious.

Overall very positive.

Dear Lacertare38

Many thanks for your time in writing about your positive experience when staying on PAU and Oak ward.

I am very pleased to hear our staff colleagues looked after you all so well and were all kind and friendly. All our staff colleagues know how important kindness and consideration is to make you and your child’s stay in hospital much easier.

I am sorry you experienced delays in seeing the doctors. I appreciate this would have caused you to feel anxious. We always aim to provide timely care and I am sorry you did not experience this. I will actively share your feedback with the doctors to increase their awareness of communicating with families in a timely manner to reduce any anxiety caused by delays that may occur when seeing patients and their families. If you wish to talk more about this we do welcome a conversation to help us explore and understand more about your experience so we can learn how to to improve our service. Should you wish to talk to us further please email Caroline Jackson, our Children’s Unit Matron, on Caroline.Jackson@SomersetFT.nhs.uk.

I will pass your feedback onto everyone who looked after you and your child on PAU and Oak ward and the wider Children’s Unit, they will be very appreciative of you kind comments.

Many thanks again.

Kind regards

Dr Holly

Dear Lacertare38

I just wanted to write to update you on the steps we made to improve our care in response to your feedback.

I shared your feedback with our Matron, senior Nurse Managers and Medical Clinical leads. They were very happy hear you were looked after so well while staying with us on PAU and Oak ward.

I have also shared your feedback about not experiencing timely reviews, which we always try to achieve and I am very sorry you did not experience this. We have actively highlighted and emphasised with all staff colleagues within the Children’s unit the importance of timely reviews for our children, young people and families. When reviews are foreseen to be delayed, to promptly communicate these to help reduce any possible anxiety caused.

Thank you once again for your feedback, we greatly appreciate it as it helps us to continually improve our service.

Kindest regards

Dr Holly
