"Positive birth story"

About: Maternity care (Wards 47, 48 & 50) / Maternity Assesment/Triage Maternity care (Wards 47, 48 & 50) / Maternity care (Ward 48)

(as a service user),

I found out I was pregnant in 2022 and had a somewhat difficult pregnancy. Throughout my pregnancy I received amazing care and attention from all departments right from the start. Twice I attended due to worries with cramping and baby movement and both times the staff were so caring and reassuring.

I was induced at 39 weeks and was kept in the antenatal ward 48 for 3 nights.  The staff were very helpful and attentive (doctors, midwives, student midwives and auxiliary staff).  Eventually my turn came to have my waters broken as baby showed no sign of appearing on her own.  My midwife kept calm through the whole process and was reassuring every step of the way. I also had a student midwife in with me too who was ensured I had everything I needed.

Unfortunately due to complications, I had to be taken into theatre and I have to say all the staff were excellent.   I don't think words can express my gratitude to those who looked after me.

Once my baby was born, I was well looked after by all staff and midwives.

I had a lot of emotional moments being a first time mum and they definitely made the few days stay in the hospital easier.

The only negative thing I would have to say is that it would be better if there were less women to a room post birth as the set up isn't the best for helping mums recover and get rest.  The rooms are far too cramped.  This is more a reflection on the institute and not the staff.

All staff did a fantastic job and no amount of thanks is enough.

Dear SashaA86,

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your positive birth story here at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow and congratulations on the birth of your baby.

It is very reassuring to read of the amazing care you received from all departments during your pregnancy and that our team were so caring and reassuring during a stressful time.

I will ensure that you praise is passed on to the helpful and attentive team in Ward 48 where you had your labour induced and also for the calm and reassuring care you received in labour ward and theatre.

I am pleased that after you baby was born you were well looked after by the midwives and other staff who made your first few days as a new mum a little easier.

Thanks for letting us know how you felt in the ward areas with your baby. As you say, the design of the wards are too cramped which can impact on your experience. We are continually looking at ways in which we can improve the experience of women and their families and I will ensure that this is fed back to our postnatal ward areas to determine if we can make any changes which would make this better without physically changing the building.

Once again, thank you and best wishes on behalf of the team at the QEUH.

Kind regards

Gaynor
