"I was constantly reassured"

About: Adult Health & Support Services / Primary Care Out of Hours NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service)

(as a parent/guardian),

I would like to express my thanks and appreciation to the Out of Hours team at Douglas Street, Hamilton for the excellent service and care they provided for my 6-week-old son who had COVID.

After calling 111 (who were also excellent with me) I was told I would be contacted by the OOH team to arrange an appointment for my son to be seen. I was impressed by how quickly I was contacted, the first initial call was thorough where I was asked questions about my son’s condition, and then I received another call with an appointment to be seen. Both calls were received in a very timely manners.

I attended OOH where my son was so well looked after. He was examined by a very professional and caring Paediatric Nurse Specialist. Thereafter he was examined by a very caring and professional Doctor who carried out numerous and thorough checks where the decision was made for him to be observed at the Paediatric Ward in Wishaw General. I appreciate the cautious manner due to my son being so young.

This being my first child I was anxious and worried but the whole process and time spent at OOH put me at ease and I was constantly reassured.

I am thankful for the OOH service and the care and attention we received. I hope using this service was a one off for us but I feel reassured we have access to this amazing service!

Many thanks to all who looked after us!

Hi Gail273

I'm so sorry to learn your baby had COVID. I've no doubt this would have been a worrying time and it would have been difficult for you to see your son experience this when so young. Congratulations on your new baby - how lovely. I hope you are enjoying parenthood.

I'm pleased to see your positive feedback about your call to 111 and also your attendance with your baby at Douglas Street and Wishaw General. The staff who attended to your son sound great and it appears they did a fantastic job in reassuring you too, which is hugely important.

I reply in relation to your call to 111. Thanks for your positive feedback for our staff. We always like share such stories with the staff involved, therefore when things are more settled and you have some time, you may be good enough to get in touch further with some detail. You can contact our Patient Experience Team at Patient.Experience@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk

Thanks again for getting in touch and best wishes.

Shona
