"My stay on female medical"

About: Daisy Hill Hospital / Female Medical

(as a service user),

I recently came in to Daisy Hill. I know the health service is under an awful amount of pressure at the moment.  The wait on a bed was so long. I was sat on a corridor all night before being moved. It was distressing for the condition I was in. However, the staff have been absolutely fantastic. They can only work with what they are given and I have been so well cared for.

The nurses on Female Medical have been wonderful, I really could not fault them at all. The doctors come and check on me quite regularly. The mixed wards is what I find most difficult. I prefer the differentiated wards. I would feel a lot more comfortable being on just a female ward. The toilets can be covered in urine and shaving clippings from men's beards. It isn't pleasant.

The food is not the best, but the staff are great, getting tea and toast if you ask.  The bed is nice and comfortable.

The staff during my experience, have all been amazing!

Thank you for sharing your experience of Female Medical Ward. We are delighted that you have found the nurses to be wonderful. I am sorry to hear that you felt uncomfortable with mixed gender beds within the ward, due to bed pressures within the ED department we have to mix the bays within the ward. We do try to limit this as much as possible. We will discuss with domestic staff regarding the issue with the toilets.

I hope you are feeling better.

Best wishes

Judith
