"Smoking at the entrance"

About: North Devon District Hospital

(as a service user),

I was visiting family who had an inpatient stay recently.  The amount of patients smoking and vaping right at the entrance of the hospital was disgusting. I suffer with asthma and was recovering from a chest infection, it is awful that anyone who comes in or out has to put up with having to breathe in second hand smoke. On a couple of occasions staff were clearly escorting the smokers. Why should people who are struggling with breathing have to tolerate that right outside the doors that they have no choice but to use?

Dear Starnn56

We appreciate your feedback regarding smoking at the hospital entrance. Creating a smoke free environment is a matter we take seriously.

Staff have recently received a reminder that smoking on-site is prohibited. I have also raised your feedback with the Health & Safety Manager. I can confirm that smoking onsite, including the concerns you have raised, are scheduled for discussion at a Health & Safety meeting next week.

Thank you again for taking the time to leave feedback.

Kind regards

Lisa
