"Mixed experiences of hospital admission"

About: Chesterfield Royal Hospital / Accident and emergency Chesterfield Royal Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I was sent to A&E by my doctor, and I thought he would have let them know, but he hadn’t. (I suppose that’s too much to ask!)

I was seen quite quickly and all staff was very friendly especially the lady doctor I can only remember her 1st name Kaitlin. The only downside was being sat waiting for a bed 5 hours, then to find I was put in a bay on Robinson ward which had 5 empty beds, so the mind boggles.

I was sent for a MRI scan the next morning. All done early and quickly. Very impressed until the orthopaedic doctor came to see me. I can’t say who he was because he didn’t introduce himself and he didn’t wear a name badge, he didn’t even say hello. Shame really when we or most people show respect,.

Nursing staff and assistants on the ward were very kind and helpful.

Hi Meggy 2

Thank you for your feedback regarding the Emergency Department. I will pass your comments on to the doctor who saw you. I am sorry you waited for a bed for 5 hrs. We try to move patients as quickly as we can to a bed once admission has been decided upon. I don't know why Robinson Ward was empty, but there could be a number of reasons such as the whole bay needed to be cleaned before new patients came into it. I can assure you that patients are not made to wait in ED any longer than necessary. Thank you for taking the time to send us your feedback.

Hi Meggy 2,

Thank you for your feedback about Robinson Ward. I am pleased that you experienced great care from nursing staff and will ensure that the Ward Leader passes this feedback directly to the ward staff.

I would like to apologise that the Orthopaedic Doctor did not have a name badge on and did not introduce themselves. I have discussed this with our Clinical Director and medical workforce officer who will discuss this with the Junior Doctors at their weekly catch up meeting.
