Dad has dementia and I was given a referral for him to SALT. Margaret came in the autumn and has given a follow up appointment today. I cannot express adequately the gratitude I feel for this help it has been absolutely invaluable. Margaret’s insight and wisdom communicated in the most gentle and understanding way has given such assurance as well as new ideas for improving interactions.
As dad’s verbal communication is so impaired, of all the input after diagnosis this has been THE most critical and useful support and validation to me and our family. Being a carer with a family member with this disease is often a guessing game and can be so upsetting when things are difficult to explain or manage effectively.
I cannot emphasise enough how Margaret’s care and advice as well as her notes on tips and strategies have been invaluable. Sometimes just speaking to someone who understands and provides time and genuine concern goes such a long way to feeling supported and that I’m not alone in this journey - a rare act of human kindness and empathy that is so treasured. Thankyou!
