Patient admitted at Wishaw Hospital with a hip fracture, had surgery within the first 36 hrs from arrival to A&E. Successful surgery and great attention in the acute orthopaedic ward (16) by very professional and kind staff.
A shame all this initial great job might be wasted by ignoring the medical/clinical needs of the patient and managing holistically. Only needed a referral to the geriatritian/care of the elderly as clinical issues occurred. Instead, patient's relatives have had to call the attention of the orthopaedic surgical team to make that decision 10 days after surgery.
A shame teams don't work more closely and surgical teams feel their job is done after surgery. Wrong. I hope you consider this and make a holistic approach to patient's care, integrating the teams and services as required..
