"CBT to help manage anxiety and depression"

About: Dundee City Health & Social Care Partnership

(as a service user),

I was referred for CBT by my GP after trying to manage anxiety and depression alone with medication.

I was sceptical at first, however after having my initial phone call with Emily, I felt hope for the first time in a long time. She was kind, compassionate, honest and was a fantastic listener. She enabled me to notice my unhelpful thoughts and taught me how to make sense of them and dissect them to realise how unhelpful they really were and how to turn them around.

Some of my worries were absolutely catastrophised to the point we both laughed.

I now use all techniques she thought me through CBT in my daily life to help me manage and by the end of our sessions I was no longer on antidepressants. I cope very well now thanks to Emily (and my hard work behind the scenes as she liked to remind me).

If anyone reading this is thinking about CBT - do it! It will change your perspective of yourself and your life. You would be lucky to have Emily’s support.

Thank you Emily you’re a star.

(Hopefully this makes it to her - I know she worked from numerous bases as we spoke to make sure we wouldn’t overlap professions, although I knew our sessions would be completely confidential).

I am delighted to hear that a patient has received so much benefit from accessing the Angus Adult Psychological Therapies Service. It's clear that Emily's contact with this patient was supportive and offered hope as well as the skill, strategies and techniques required to start to think differently in order to manage depression and anxiety.
