"Hand surgery experience"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Day Surgery North Devon District Hospital / Fracture Clinic North Devon District Hospital / Therapies

(as the patient),

In the last 6 months plus I've had a surgical procedure on my left and right hand.  All the departments I had dealings with e.g. day surgery, fracture clinic and physiotherapy provided an excellent service.  The only slight annoyance was at the start of my second procedure where I was called to the day surgery unit at 07:30hrs but did not actually go along to theatre until approx 15:00hrs.  This to me seemed unnecessary as other patients reported later and went for surgery before me.  It all made for a very long and tiring day, other than that everything went well.

Like most hospitals, the parking is a bit of a nightmare but I always arrive early and usually find a space.

The main entrance sometimes gets blocked with people smoking even though its a no smoking zone, I do not see why I should be forced to walk through a wall of cigarette smoke in order to get out of the building and onwards to the car park.

The lovely flower bed in front of the main entrance is a total mess and looks like a ploughed field, this is due to inconsiderate parking by visitors which causes the buses and and larger vehicles to drive up the kerb and over the bed causing a lot of damage.

In the coffee shop near the main entrance, one of the staff members who works behind the counter has a rather brusque manner. Closing time is 16:00hrs but the lights are off and it's takeaways only by around 15:30hrs, not much of a service really at that time of the day.
