"A&E visit, hospital stay and discharge"

About: Pilgrim Hospital / Accident and emergency Pilgrim Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I was admitted to A&E with appendicitis, while still the ambulance the doctor came to attend to me to say I needed to go straight to a bed, that did not happen.

I sat in A&E for 9 hours, being constantly sick and each time is was sick I could not hold my waters, this was very embarrassing not only for me but others around, it was not dignified at all.

I eventually got to the ward at 01:30 to find 3 empty beds, and I am sure 3 people were not discharged at midnight.

My stay in hospital was very good the nurses, theatre staff and doctors were excellent and could not fault them.

It then came to my day of being discharged. I was given the all-clear to go home at 10:00 as everything was good. I then had to sit and wait until 19:45 for the doctor to complete my paperwork, sick note and medication.

Surely there is a more up-to-date system to help things move quicker. I was not the only one, this was happening to others on the ward. There seems to be a lack of working together or wanting to improve the whole system of the NHS.
