In June '23 I had a nasty fall. I am in my 50s. I tripped over my dog and fell over my backdoor step, sustaining a broken humerus with 3 fractures.
I phoned 999, and was told an ambulance would be with me in 4 hours. I was alone and unable to move due to excruciating pain.
I was taken to Grimsby and had morphine to make me comfortable.
It was established i had 3 fractures and they decided to treat this with a plastic brace hoping that gravity would enable bones to heal.
It was the middle of summer, i got a skin infection due to wrong brace used.
This caused more discomfort.
After 7 months of fracture not healing and although my consultant dissuaded me from having an operation I decided to have the operation.
I have Crohn's disease and I'm on immune suppressant drugs, my consultant knew this but then it became a problem! I felt they passed the buck so to speak and referred me to Lincoln.
At the time I felt let down as I was put through as routine and not urgent and contacted my consultant's secretary several times asking to be put through as urgent! This fell on deaf ears and nothing was done about this! I felt let down and undervalued by Grimsby Hospital and the only thing I am grateful for is being referred to Lincoln.
After months of pain and fracture not healing I was referred to Lincoln to see Mr Pulvarti, i was placed on priority trauma list and was recently operated on.
Operation was complex, instead of taking 2 hours it took 5 hours as my deltoid muscle attached to the fracture and had to be repaired with synthetic bone and pin and plated.
The care I received from Lincoln was above and beyond excellent, and in hindsight I would have avoided Grimsby Hospital like the plague!
I am on a slow road to recovery but operation was a success.
I am so grateful that Mr Pulvarti performed my operation and the nurses - especially Stephen and Sajay - were excellent.
